Colby Van Tassel


Fitness Director

Colby came to Minton's in 2004 from the Texarkana Bandits Hockey team, where he spent 2 years as the head coach of the Bandits. During his time as coach of the Bandits, his team compiled a record of 63-5-1. Colby is from Houghton in Michigan's upper peninsula. He is a graduate of Potsdam State University where his major was mediation and nutrition. After college, Colby went on to play 325 games of professional hockey where he scored 7 goals, 31 assists, and 1364 penalty minutes. Before his professional career, he spent time under some of the country's top fitness trainers while playing hockey in the U.S. National programs. Colby's specialty is training up and coming athletes and is a certified personal trainer through SCW. As a fitness director, Colby will work to ensure that the Sportsplex will continue to have strong programs, the latest fitness information and the top equipment available to our members.


Anita Hackleman


Certified Personal Trainer

My journey began in 2005, at 243 lbs I was desperate for a change. That change happened at Minton’s Sportsplex with the help of personal trainers Colby Vantassel and Rosa Mays. In one year I dropped 104lbs!!! It is amazing what proper nutrition and exercise can do.  The results have been amazing and I feel like a new woman, better than I have ever felt in my adult life. Now I want to help people who are struggling with weight issues and who want to reclaim their health and well being.  My experience with personal trainers had such an impact on my life that I wanted to do the same for someone else. I received my Personal Trainer Certification through Fit Tour and I am currently studying to further my education in the fitness industry. I am excited about what the future hold for my future clients.  I have been married for 21 years and my husband (Eddy) and have 2 wonderful children, Holly 13 and Caleb 3.


Chase Steed


Certified Personal Trainer

Chase is a NASM certified Personal Trainer who specializes in goal specific training anywhere form weight loss and strength training to athletic training. With 5 years of personal experience in fitness, Chase plans to compete at State and even National level Bodybuilding Competitions. Majoring in Biology, Chase is interested in all aspects of health and physical wellness and is ready to help others reach their own fitness goals. “The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire”


John Cross


Certified Personal Trainer

John Cross is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor who specializes in strength, toning, and athlete training. He has spent most of his life pursuing a variety of Martial Arts, Kickboxing, and Gymnastics. John really strives to create and maintain relationship with his clients to ensure that they always have the motivation and information needed to fully succeed.  His goal is to one day hold a supervisor position in the fitness industry and continue guiding people to their goals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “Good timber does not grow on its own.  The stronger the wind, the stronger the trees”


Lana Barton


Certified Personal Trainer

Lana is a Northeast Texas native. She grew up and now lives in Hooks, TX with her husband and 15 month old daughter. Lana first worked in the fitness industry in 2002. She received her personal trainer certification from The Cooper Institute in Dallas, TX in 2008. Lana specializes in weight training and toning using machine weights, free weights, balls and bands. With the help of clean eating and her own workout plan, Lana recently reached her goal weight after the birth of her daughter, losing almost 50 pounds.
